You wouldn’t have thought blogging could be dangerous but if you say the wrong things, in the wrong place it certainly can be. The targeting of bloggers by authorities across the world is growing daily, it’s almost certainly been happening as far back as 1995 although the first official case happened in 2003. This was a man blogging in Egypt who was accused of violating the very strict religious laws. He was tried, found guilty and sentenced to an unknown prison sentence – we know that he is still in prison now though.
If that’s not enough to ensure that you take steps for anonymous surfing and blogging, then worryingly it’s growing fast. Each year we see a huge rise in the number or arrests, disappearance and threats towards bloggers by State authorities across the globe. The reasons they are targeted according to the authorities varies but a very common theme is activity considered anti-state.
